A recent study published by Strategy Analytics predicts that shipments of Android powered smartphones are set to grow 900% during 2009.
The expected growth is based mainly on the huge support the platform has seen from mobile operators and mobile phone vendors alike.
Samsung have recently announced the i7500 Android phone that is expected to launch in June, with Motorola and Sony Ericsson both recently confirming plans to launch an Android phone during 2009.
According to Tom Kang, senior analyst at Strategy Analytics:

Erich Specht, the owner of a small Illinois-based software company called Android Data Corp, is currently suing Google and the Open Handset Alliance to the tune of $94 million in damages for using the trademarked term "Android".
"Basically, it's a stolen name," says Specht's attorney, Martin Murphy. "It's our trademark, and Google is using it as if it's theirs."
Along with the $94 million in cash, Specht also requests that all Google's Android branded products be removed from the market and re-branded under a different name.

Acer’s head of mobile-phone products, Aymar de Lencquesaing, has revealed that the company plan to launch their first Android phone by the end of the year.
“We have not made any formal announcement of an Android- based device, although it’s likely that we’ll have one in 2009,” Aymar de Lencquesaing commented in a television interview today from Singapore. “We intend to have devices that will take advantage of multiple platforms.”

Over the coming weeks T-Mobile's G1 Android phone will be released across several more European Countries.
The G1 will be made available to T-Mobile customers across The Netherlands, Czech Republic and Austria by January 30th. With the G1 launching across Germany on February 2nd, followed by Poland later in the month.
In Germany the G1 phone will sell for 1 euro ($1.33) in combination with a two-year contract with T-Mobile, or can be bought for 450 euros without a plan.
